Surgical Treatments
Scalp Reduction
Scalp reduction is a surgical treatment to hair loss that involves cutting away the bald part at the top of the head and sewing the skin together. In this process the hair bearing parts of the scalp are brought together, so the bald spot no longer remains. The procedure should be performed by a licensed doctor. Local anethesia is used to numb the area during surgery.
Scars may result from the surgery, and it could actuallt resuly in an acceleration in hair loss in the following weeks and months. This hair is not likely to return. The skin may also strech back. The procedure results in a loss of hair for future hair transplants.
Hair Transplant
Hair transplant surgery is done by grafting strips of donor hair into the bald portions of the scalp. They can look somewhat unnatural as the blood supply does not return to normal after the transplant. You will need several appointments, with 6 weeks between sessions.
Surgery can be painful, and although some experience great results, others do not get the results they envision. Make sure to do your research and to find the right doctor to get the best results with surgical treatments to hair loss.
